Cheapest way to Travel from Budapest to Slunj in Croatia?

I want to get from Budapest to Slunj in Croatia. Do you guys have any tips for me on where to go in Budapest, to begin with if I want to hitchhike? I have only one day to get there, and I would like to be there before 6 pm. Do you think it’s possible if I start early? If not, any other tips on cheap ways to travel?

You can try blabla car its kind of cheap, or you can go to the beginning of Budapest M1/ M7 highway and take the direction M7 which take you directly to Croatia, Area Budaörs.

I advise you to write big cities names like Siòfok or Nagykanizsa than Croatia or all in the same time;) someone surely gonna pick you! Start early cuz even its looks 4-5 hours will take more 🙂 good luck

As an encouragement last Friday I hitchhiked from Budapest to Sarajevo in one day. So, I think it is possible. Check hitchwiki, u have all necessary info there.

But, it took me like 12 hours. I will just suggest you to go as early as u can, like 7 am. And I believe you can do it faster since it is only one border control/or there is not (I do not know between those two countries). I wish u all of the luck! 🙂

Yeah, I will start as early as possible, worst case scenario I’ll take some sorts of public transport. Or I’ll just arrive a bit later to the festival.

In my opinion, the public transport is well organized to bring you outside Budapest. I walked like 10min to the spot where M5 (towards south) was starting. Care more about the spot you will stand, they must have enough space to stop the car. B/w my waiting time was 15min and also, police doesn’t prohibit it since I got a thumbs up from them 🙂

    Check https://www.virail.hu/budapest-zagrab/
before 24th to see the cheap car rides. The train is 32 euros and guaranteed success.

I’m a local but not so experienced hitchhiker. I would start by asking here – https://goo.gl/maps/MsHBrQcwZjL2 for rides.

Generally, people are nice and 90% cars have a free seat, so it shouldn’t a problem 🙂 Best wishes!
