Try catching a Khlong Saen Saep Boat. Not off the beaten track, but not many tourists do it, and it’s good fun, and cheap, especially if you tune it to go past the temples of Wat Pho, etc. at sunset.
Get “lost” in Chinatown! Take the boat from Prah Atit road (Khao San) and get off at “marine base,” that’s one stop further than China town. All these little streets, small car part shops, hidden temples are amazing to visit!

The Golden Mount (Wat Saket) is a lovely temple which is not crowded like the big tourist sights. Recommend arriving by Khlong Saen Saep Express Boat. Also alternatives to Jim Thompson house which are traditional teak houses filled with history: The Cabbage Patch Palace (Suan Pakkad) near Phaya Thai and M R Kukrits House in Sathorn.

On Saturdays, have a great market tour, cooking demo and dinner which is nothing like your usual Pad Thai blah blah cooking class. A cheap and fun way to meet others, between Ari and Saphan Kwai.
